Airborne Equipment and Parachute Repair Shop

Aviano Air Force Base, Aviano, Italy

As LEED consultants for the Airborne Parachute Shop project, ODG recommended significant energy and water saving strategies throughout the 40,609 gsf plan and project master plan. The project is designed to be one of the first buildings on the Italian Peninsula to obtain a LEED Silver rating. ODG’s innovative sustainability strategy for the Airborne Equipment Parachute Repair Shop includes the following:

  • Heating costs will be reduced by 32% by capturing the heat used to dry parachutes and reusing it to heat the building when needed.
  • Water usage will be reduced by 55% by employing advanced rainwater and grey water reuse systems that are designed to support all water needs associated with urinal flushing and landscape irrigation.
  • The sustainable site plan includes bicycle racks and locker rooms in the repair shop to encourage cycling to work.
  • Native vegetation will be planted and a storm water mitigation plan will be implemented.

It is estimated the project will to cost $5,600,000 and be completed in 2012.
