Country Club Hills Recreational Facility

Fairfax, VA

ODG led the design of this new 5,000 gsf clubhouse and adjacent 5,500 gsf outdoor covered deck. The challenge on this project was to provide an environmentally sensitive facility on a limited budget. The new clubhouse is designed to be a mixed use facility featuring a dining hall, commercial kitchen, locker rooms, offices, a manager’s office, lifeguard station, snack bar, and outdoor deck providing spectator seating for swimming competitions. Work included master planning, sustainable design, and interior architecture and continued from the programming phase into contract documents.

The master plan includes the new recreational building, a four lane pool, wading pool, amphitheatre, expanded parking lot, tennis ball courts, pump house, storage shed, and outdoor deck. ODG prepared a LEED analysis and recommendations for this project to obtain LEED certification. Our MEP engineer recommended geothermal heat pumps to supply heat for all three pools as well as the clubhouse building. Other recommendations included native plantings in the landscape plan and a permeable parking lot surface.

ODG  listened to the board carefully and prepared a program and schematic layout, which was readily accepted. Early in the project, ODG prepared in-house value engineering cost studies to keep the client informed of costs. The project was completed in September 2006 at a total cost of approximately $900,000.
